Orbment Slots are devices in the Trails in the Sky Series that host an array of Quartz organised in a circuit enabling the use of Arts from stored EP. Quartz installed in an Orbment have an elemental value, determining the range of Arts that may be used when the requirements for any individual Arts are met.
Quartz are arranged by utilising circuitry lines on the Orbment, where the total elemental value is the sum of all Quartz installed within that line. Central Orbment slots that branch in multiple directions provide elemental values to all connected lines to the central Orbment slot.
Lines and Slots[]
The total elemental value is displayed dependent on the installed Quartz within each line. Each line has a representative colour on both the Quartz installation menu and elemental value lines. A central slot will remain colourless as it's installed elemental values applies to all connected lines.
Using the example of Estelle Bright's Orbment, any Quartz installed in Slot 1 has it's elemental values shared between both the Yellow and Blue lines, however a Quartz installed in Slot 7 belongs solely to the Blue line and only shares it's elemental values with other Quartz in the Blue line. Despite some Quartz having high elemental values, such as the Water Gem (12), accessing high-tier Arts can require installing a combination of up to 5 different Quartz, such as Cocytus (25 12 5) -- Using a Water Gem, Sapphire Gem, Freeze 2, Wood Gem, and a Gold Gem to meet the requirements. Due to this, some Quartz must be be strategically placed in order to meet some requirements, often with high-tier Arts sacrifices must be made to quality of Arts over quantity. There are several Party Members which are unable to learn many high-tier Arts due to variations in slot placement and line branches, despite this there are also several Party Members, such as Olivert Reise Arnor that can access all Arts.
Elemental Slots[]
There are eight variations of elemental slots, one for each of the seven elements with an additional non-elemental neutral slot, in which any Quartz may be installed, for other slots only a Quartz matching the elemental slot can be used.
Each of the Party Members are biased towards one of the 7 elements, with the exception of Estelle and Renne whom remains neutrally non-elemental. Whilst none of the Party Members are exclusive to any one element, elemental slots can hinder the capability of the particular Party Members in the range of Arts that can be used.
